What is Slate?
Slate is a fine-grained rock that formed some 400-600 million years ago from compacted sedimentary clay deposits in ancient seas.
Slate is composed of two lines of breakability: cleavage and grain.
These lines of breakability make it possible to split slate into the thin sheets used in slate roofing.
Why choose Slate?
Slate has long been a favourite of Builders and Architects because of its aesthetic and natural properties and durability. It is highly resistant to acids, chemicals and temperature extremes. It does not fade and is non porous. Slate has been used worldwide for thousands of years.
